Our Today for the Community’s Tomorrow, Helping Our People Excel in the Initiatives We Do Together with, by and for Them, Shared Purpose is to Be Sustainable as One Community for That is Our Way That is Who We Are.

Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC) chose 30 participants community organizers and environment personnel to undergo livelihood trainings at Tibby’s Farm, Angeles City, Pampanga on March 25-30, 2019.

The trainings include organic farming, bamboo propagation and marketing, mushroom farming, climate smart agriculture, farm tourism and community sustainability ventures (CSV)

Atty. Angelo Valencia, Founder of Klasrum ng Pag-asa (KNP), said the Community Sustainability Ventures, (CSV) Inc. is a social entrepreneur company that creates shared value in the public, private and social sector; with corporations, institutions and communities.

“It seeks to ensure that every person has a place under the sun and be able to transform communities – from where they are to where they should be especially for communities where the roads end and the streets have no names through a culture for manner we all call BAYANIHAN,” he said.

The participants came from NAC’s subsidiary mines such as Dinapigue Mining Corporation (DMC), Cagdianao Mining Corporation (CMC), Hinatuan Mining Corporation, Taganito Mining Corporation (TMC), Manicani Mining Corporation (MMC) and Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC).

Rogel C. Cabauatan, NAC Assistant Vice President for Community Relations (ComRel) and Environment said that they are planning to adopt these possible and viable livelihood trends nowadays especially the bamboo propagation and production.

“NAC decided to undergo training on Bamboo propagation and marketing, and other livelihood projects hoping to replicate and implement in all NAC mines.” said Cabauatan

Simbil Adjimin, one of the community organizers and a livelihood technician said it is high time to discover and learn sustainable and long-term livelihood interventions for possible implementation for the current and coming years of community development programs in respective mining communities.

“Malaking bagay po talaga itong training para sa aming mga empleyado ng kompanya. Magiging instrument kami upang makatulong at mas mapalawak pa ang kaalaman ng aming mga komunidad pagdating sa mga posibleng pangmatagalang pangkabuhayan,” said Adjimin.

The participants were taught about leadership values, understanding community behaviors and exposed to viable farm ventures for possible replication to community from experts from different walks of life.

Atty. Angelo Valencia, also known as “Kuya Pultak” founder of Klasrum ng Pag-asa and head of the one-week training, underscored the importance of Bayanihan between companies and its partner-communities to achieve sustainability and productivity.

“I will only be relaying to you what Dennis Zamora has been dreaming for NAC and that is by dedicating our today for their tomorrow, by helping our communities excel and be sustainable as one community,” said Valencia.

Valencia added that they also vie to achieving and implementing the spirit of Health, Education, Environment & Sustainable Livelihoods (HEELS).

The participants were also exposed to Lubao Bamboo Hub-Eco Park and processing facility in Lubao, Pampanga for possible benchmarking.
